General Information

The LCM takes a few basic functions of existing technologies and integrates it into a single, yet modular device. The core of the device is the CIIM (Communications, Identification, Interface Module) which acts like a moderator and control unit as a whole for the LCM. The LAM, Medisys are also Key elements. It is small (about the size of a watch) and be worn either on the forearm, or on the shoulder, which ever is most compatible for the host, or most comfortable.

Of the LCM, the LAM and the MediSys are optional Components. The design of the LCM was to be modular, but with these three specific components in mind. The LCM was also designed primarily for Military use, while it does have extensive scientific, medical, and Engineering applications.

Details

CIIM

Communications device developed and used in USI. Is used to access USI computers vocally. Its range is limited (about 1/3 AU) for active communications. Active Communications requires an optional Battery pack. Passive Communications works within ships, and an additional radius of about a small planet. The Communications feature uses the Identification feature for proper access to USI systems when applicable.

Identification is positively identified by way of the neural connection to the brain. It keyed to the brainwaves of the host by the identifying computer. The actual identifier is not kept on the CIIM for security reasons. When within the confines of a USI station or ship, the Identification feature acts like a homing beacon. When outside the range, the feature is dormant. USI Systems activate the beacon automatically. Standard USI suits do not block this feature. While on USI ships and stations, ID blocking devices are illegal for USI Officers.

Interface can occur in a few ways. Most commonly is the SVAPA iCon located on the back of the neck. This is an unobtrusive implant which is about the size of a nickel. It is on the back of the neck to provide a quicker and more direct connection than the rest of the LCM Requires. Interface for some computer systems is by way of the LCM's built in Holographic Control Module. The holographic display by default is a cube of information which is reproduced a foot or so from the LCM. When connecting to a ships or stations computer and an Interface is desired, that particular system will have its own default holographic setting. Similarly to SVAPA, ships system interfacing can also be access by way of the SVAPA port.

MediSys has three limited yet vital functions:

1 - Diagnosis Computer. The Medisys has a direct link to the CIIM module connected to the brain, and can report all vital statistics about the wearer via on-board computer interface, or other local computer sources.

2 - PSD. Personal Shielding Device can provide upto four direct substatial hits before losing containment. The PSD is not regenerable. This provide limited cover so that trained medic's can assist them. This feature Requires an Extra Battery or may cause immediate neural shock, putting the host into a coma.

3 - AutoMedicator - The Medisys can be programmed to supply certain medicine automatically or by command. Most automatic applications would be to supress pain, or apply adrenaline boost. Other forms may be applied as well ( like Stimpacks, certain treatments for harsh environments etc...)

The LCM has on it the ability to install upto three additional componants. They are typically IDR's (IsoDataRods), Medicine, and Battery's. IDR's can be accessed directly by way of the Holo interface.

The LCM limited User Computer functions are mostly for access to LCM's internal system, IDR's and Remote access (like computer hacking) but is in by no means a sophisticated (meaning ultra fast ultra powerful) system. Most of the LCM's features can by augmented by extra additional equipment, however the compromise of convenience is to be noted.
